报告人简介

Dr Fan received his Bsc degree from Jilin University in 1999, PhD degree from National University of Singapore in 2023. After his postdoc research at Max-Planck-Institute and the University of Cambridge, he joined Nanyang Technological University in 2008. Dr Fan has been working on energy materials and devices, including new-generation batteries and electrocatalysis. He has co-authored more than 330 journal papers with an H-index of 107 (WoS) and has been recognized as Highly Cited Researcher since 2016. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Materials Today Energy, and editorial/advisory board member of journals including Energy and Environmental Sciences, Small, Advanced Science, eScience, Next Materials, etc..

报告简介

Rechargeable aqueous batteries are being widely studied for their potential application in energy storage. Despite the tremendous progress in fundamental understanding and battery performance by rational design of electrode materials, electrolytes and device architectures, mitigating the formidable challenges of metal dendrites, corrosion, and electrolyte’s stability is still the holy grail. In this talk, I will focus on aqueous Zn batteries which is the current hotspot, including stabilization of Zn anode and conversion-type cathode materials (such as iodine and sulfur). This is achieved primarily by designing the electrolytes. We employ both hydrogel based electrolyte and cocktail-like liquid electrolytes. The importance of single-ion conductance in electrolytes and the dual effect of electrolyte to both cathode and anode will be highlighted. I may also showcase our recent results on other kinds of aqueous batteries (alkaline, sodium, etc).
